JUNETEENTH SCREENING: DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST WITH AMANDLA STENBERG

Celebrate African American heritage and Juneteenth alongside acclaimed actress Amandla Stenberg (<i>The Hunger Games</i>), who will share her affection for this under appreciated achievement with Southampton audiences. Stenberg will be joined in conversation with Dr. Georgette Grier-Key, a professor at Medger Evers College.<div><br></div><div>Julie Dash’s 1991 masterpiece was the first U.S. feature directed by an African American woman to receive a theatrical release. This mesmerizing and lyrical story transports us to a beautiful island off the coast of Georgia and South Carolina circa 1902. It’s here that several generations of a close-knit family celebrate their African heritage while preparing for migration to the mainland.
