The Southampton Playhouse first opened its doors in 1932 — a small-town picture house in the heart of Southampton Village that quickly became something more: a gathering place, a shared experience, a piece of the East End's identity. For nearly a century, we've screened the latest films, hosted community events, and grown alongside the audiences we serve, all while holding onto the warmth and character that make us unlike any other cinema on Long Island.

A lot has changed since 1932. Following an extensive renovation, we've emerged as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization with a mission that extends well beyond the screen. Every detail — from the exceptional picture and sound quality in our theaters to our thoughtfully selected concessions — has been designed with community experience in mind. Our IMAX theater and three Dolby Atmos-equipped theaters bring a truly unique cinematic experience to the East End of Long Island and beyond, offering something unavailable anywhere else between New York City and the tip of the North Fork. But the technology is only part of the story. What drives us is a commitment to education, accessibility, and genuine community engagement for residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

We serve the entire East End of Long Island — Southampton, Westhampton, East Hampton, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor, Bridgehampton, Quogue, Riverhead, and every community in between. Our calendar reflects that breadth: first-run blockbusters and independent films, Oscar parties, advance screenings, concerts in Dolby Atmos, school and outreach programs, Playhouse Jr., Sunday Morning Crafts, and a full schedule of live events and special programming.
