Southampton Playhouse is more than a movie theater—it’s a one-of-a-kind cultural destination in the heart of Southampton Village and a truly unforgettable venue for private events. Whether you’re planning a private screening, birthday celebration, premiere, corporate gathering, gala, or special celebration, our beautifully restored historic cinema offers a setting unlike anywhere else on the East End.
With four screens—including IMAX and 35mm film projection—along with the Kalisman Family Lounge and flexible event spaces, Southampton Playhouse can host everything from intimate gatherings to large-scale events. Spaces can be customized for presentations, receptions, screenings, or fully tailored experiences built around film and storytelling.
To enhance the experience, we offer curated concession and hospitality packages, featuring elevated cinema favorites and customizable options designed to complement your event. Guests also enjoy convenient access to the Playhouse parking lot with over 120 spaces, making arrival easy for attendees.

Theater 1 Detail
Theater 1
Our largest and most prestigious space, equipped with full IMAX and Dolby Atmos technology. With 161 seats and a grand, immersive screen, Theater 1 is the premier choice for film premieres, major corporate presentations, and high-profile events that demand a commanding presence.
Theater 2
A premium auditorium with full digital cinema capabilities, ideal for private screenings, corporate presentations, fundraising events, and curated film experiences. Rich acoustics and an expansive screen create an atmosphere that elevates any occasion.
Theater 3
One of the few venues on the East End offering 35mm film projection, Theater 3 is the perfect setting for a classic cinema experience. Pair a celluloid screening with a filmmaker Q&A, a film-centric celebration, or a curated cinephile evening that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Theater 3 offers a uniquely elevated private-event experience, including:
• Private covered VIP entrance directly off our patio—ideal for premiere-style or red-carpet arrivals
• Dedicated private restroom exclusively for Theater 3 guests
• Private concession setup that can be fully customized to your event
These features make Theater 3 especially well suited for premieres, private screenings, corporate presentations, and VIP gatherings.
Theater 4
Our most intimate auditorium, ideal for private screenings, bespoke film dinners, panel discussions, and small-scale fundraising receptions. Theater 4's smaller footprint creates an atmosphere of exclusivity—perfect for events where connection and conversation are as important as the program
Theater Four is especially unique in its flexibility. Its seating can be completely removed, allowing the room to transform into a fully open event space—perfect for elegant dinners, weddings, dancing, receptions, and custom-designed layouts tailored to your event.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many guests can the venue accommodate?
Capacity varies by configuration. Individual auditoriums seat between 81 and 161 guests, and full-venue buyouts can accommodate 492+ guests across multiple spaces. Contact us for details on your specific event.
What's included in a rental?
Every rental includes use of the selected space(s), professional projection and sound, basic lighting, and on-site staff support. Additional services—including concessions, bar service, custom A/V setups, and live streaming—are available as add-ons.
Can I screen my own film or presentation?
Yes. Our projection systems support DCP, Blu-ray, HDMI laptop input, and 35mm film. Whether you're premiering a short film, running a corporate presentation, or hosting a watch party, we can accommodate it.
Is catering available?
The Playhouse offers curated concession packages including popcorn, snacks, and a full bar with beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic options. For larger events, custom food and beverage packages are available. Outside catering is handled on a case-by-case basis.
Where do guests park?
The Playhouse is located in the heart of Southampton Village with convenient street parking and nearby municipal lots. For larger events, we can provide parking guidance to share with your guests.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend reaching out at least 4–6 weeks before your desired date for the best availability, though we'll always do our best to accommodate shorter timelines.
What ages are birthday parties good for?
Our birthday screenings work great for kids of all ages—from young children through teenagers. We can help you choose a format that fits your group, whether that's an animated film for little ones, a blockbuster for tweens, or a gaming or karaoke setup for teens.
How many kids can attend a birthday party?
Our auditoriums seat between 86 and 161 guests, so there's plenty of room for the whole class—or just a smaller crew of friends. We can also set up the Kalisman Family Lounge for cake, presents, and hanging out before or after the screening.
